Burns Night

>> Saturday, 24 January 2009

As all the Scottish readers will know, this is the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of Rabbie Burns.  Every year there are loads of Burns Suppers, but this year, there has been a huge amount of publicity and media.  Everyone you talk to, they are either having, or going to a burns supper.

We had Burns Night at Jean & Eddie’s.  Everyone was there (except Stuart – he was on call).  The kids had all prepared a turn.  Ella started the proceedings with the Selkirk Grace.

Next we received the Haggis

and Craig recited the Burns Poem - “To a Haggis”

We then all sat down to eat – Haggis, Neaps and Tatties to start then home made Steak Pie – great.

After dinner we were entertained with some more turns from the talented weans.  Jamie & Nicole gave us a poem.

Laura managed to recite a huge amount of Tam O' Shanter

Patrick and myself did “A Dug, A Dug”, a poem about a boy asking his dad to buy a dog.

And Megan gave us “Auld Lang Syne on the Clarinet to finish

It was a great day – one thing I hadn’t mentioned was that Jean & Eddie had bought the boys Kilts, they looked great – I am sure you agree.
